From the Denver Post:
Although the ruling has no immediate effect on any local gun laws, some national legal experts predict a new wave of challenges to determine what limits can be placed on guns, including assault weapons, or on the use of guns beyond the defense of home and family.
“Today’s decision reaffirms what the founders intended when they wrote the Constitution and what millions of Americans already know: The Second Amendment protects the right of law-abiding individuals to own a gun,” Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., said.
Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., also praised the decision.
“Today’s ruling recognizes that gun ownership, like the freedom of speech or the right to freely assemble, is a fundamental right,” Allard said.
But Kristofer Eisenla, a spokesman for Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette, said the congresswoman was troubled by the decision and needed to review it.
Fellow Democratic Rep. Mark Udall said he appreciated “the fact that the Supreme Court has finally given clearer direction on the breadth of this important part of our Constitution’s Bill of Rights.”
