Sad, and the second time this has come up. From the Toledo Blade:
IT’S almost laughable – and certainly sad – that Ohio’s former attorney general, even now the subject of several state investigations into possible wrongdoing during his brief tenure, is a mentor for current attorneys general across the country. But there was Marc Dann, who resigned May 14 after admitting he couldn’t handle the job, hobnobbing with colleagues at a meeting of the National Association of Attorneys General.
The group boasts a subset of former AGs, the Society of Attorneys General Emeriti, who offer advice and wisdom to those currently in office. Membership is assured simply by being a former attorney general, so there was no bar to private citizen Dann, even though he stepped down amid a sexual harassment investigation involving a top aide and the revelation of his own extramarital affair with one of his employees.
Thus it was that Mr. Dann, a disowned Democrat, showed up at the conference in Providence, R.I., along with two of Ohio’s former Republican attorneys general, Betty Montgomery, whom he defeated in 2006, and Jim Petro, his immediate predecessor in the post.
Also attending the gathering was Nancy Rogers, the woman appointed to replace the disgraced Mr. Dann. We don’t know whether she availed herself of his advice, but she seems like too bright a person to fall into that trap.
