A few, as in 3 actually, interesting tidbits from Louisiana these past
few days, and all three have to do with the state’s esteemed A.G. Charlie
Foti.
First, in case you hadn’t heard, Democrat Governor Kathleen Blanco
has opted AGAINST seeking a second term as Governor of the Bayou State.
No doubt, it has to do with her desire to spend more time with her family, and
has NOTHING to do with her lackluster performance in the wake of Hurricane
Katrina in August of ’05. That’s just the start – the fun
part is in the recap of current and popular past office holders who would be
potential candidates for Governor – the wildly popular attorney general
of the state isn’t mentioned. Huh, wonder why that is – think
it’s because the local political scribes know that if Foti winds up with
a halfway credible opponent he might be out of work come this fall? Think
I’m kidding – check out the article here.
But have no fear, a Democrat Attorney General’s name has come up
regarding the race of Governor – that would be FORMER A.G. Richard Ieyoub has
told local media folks that he is taking a good look at the race for Gov himself
– so
at least the office is represented.
Finally, because he is up for re-election, the current Democrat A.G.
Charlie Foti is being accused by a fellow Democrat, the District Attorney of
New Orleans, of lying about offering to provide help to the over burdened D.A.’s
office. Foti says he’s offered help on violent crime cases which
have shot through the roof in the city – to quote the Associated
Press:
Jordan said he was stunned by the
comment.
"The attorney general is
mistaken when he says this office is reluctant to receive help," Jordan
said. "He's never offered this. If the attorney general was offering
assistance, we would have gratefully accepted it."
Let the good times roll…
