Attorney General Tom Corbett gets a tour on a campaign stop. This is really pretty cool – it appears to work like a little potato boiling co-generation plant. Talk about renewables!
From the News Item:
“You’re manufacturing, but you’re green at the same time. That’s got to sell,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett said during a Tuesday morning visit to Keystone Potato Products in Hegins.
The visit — a campaign stop for Corbett, who is running for re-election against Democrat John Morganelli — highlighted Keystone’s 2005 move to a more environmentally-conscious potato plant.
Keystone President Keith Masser said the plant operates on steam generated from methane gas from a landfill across the street. He also said Keystone uses only one water supply: A 600-foot mine water pool under the facility. The water is treated, used in the plant and dumped back into the Susquehanna River basin far cleaner than if the plant didn’t treat it.
Corbett’s visit came at the prodding of another local farmer, Barron “Boots” Hetherington, who operates B&R Farms, Ringtown.
“I met Tom Corbett last year and he asked me, ‘What’s exciting in agriculture?’” Hetherington said. “I told him, ‘Let me take you up to see Keith Masser.’”
