From the Business Review:
Former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno says he won’t finish out his term.
The 79-year-old senator said during a press conference today that he is not sure yet when he will step down. Last month, Bruno announced that he will not run for re-election this fall, ending 32 years in the state Legislature. He has led the state Senate since 1995.
Bruno’s term ends Dec. 31.
But Bruno (R-Brunswick) said he is going “day by day.” The senator said the reason he was stepping down early was because there was business that still needs to be done but he said the focus has remained on him.
Bruno said the seat will remain open until the election.
Bruno, a Glens Falls native and graduate of Skidmore College, has been instrumental in steering state funds and projects to the Capital Region. The biography on his Senate Web site credits him with helping enact $126 billion in cumulative tax savings and helping add 800,000 private-sector jobs to the state.
