Boom. From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:
A statewide grand jury has returned a presentment recommending criminal charges against a half dozen or more former high-level staff members of the House Democratic caucus, saying they engaged in a plot to trade taxpayer funded pay bonuses for work on political campaigns.
Among those charged is Jeff Foreman, the counsel to House Minority Whip Keith McCall, D-Carbon.
Mr. Foreman, former chief of staff to then House Democratic Whip Michael R. Veon, D-Beaver, joined Mr. McCall’s staff last year.
He was absent from the Capitol today, but his attorney, Royce L. Morris, confirmed that his client had been informed of the criminal charges.
“He’s aware,” Mr. Morris said of his client.
Others named in the presentment and expected to be charged are Michael R. Manzo, former chief-of-staff to House Democratic Leader H. William DeWeese, D-Greene.
Mr. Manzo is accused of playing a key role in orchestrating the bonuses.
Another former top aide to Mr. Veon, Brett Cott, also was informed that he would be named in the presentment and likely charged.
