Shellie Rebman, a former attorney in the Cass County Prosecutor’s office, was hired by Chris Koster in 1995 and served in the office for two years while Koster was the county’s chief lawyer.

Now Koster is running a campaign to become the state’s top lawyer, a campaign that has already had its fair share of surprises. First the race was turned upside down last year when Koster announced instead of running as Republican – which had been expected – he would run as a Democrat.

Last month the Associated Press documented potentially illegal fundraising tactics used by the campaign that led to an ethics complaint filed by a bipartisan panel. Then there was a $200,000 independent campaign funded by Koster’s ex-wife in opposition to his candidacy.
