Mississippi AG Race Update

Mississippi Republican A.G. candidate Al Hopkins is making big news
today reportedly far out raising his opponent, incumbent Democrat A.G. Jim Hood
by a margin of $329,315 to $177,982.  Hopkins saved 97% of his funds
raised, leaving him with $319,539 cash on hand.  Hood on the other hand
had just $136,785 cash on hand for the same period.

A quick review of Hood’s report and the $177,982 he raised shows
the following:

– 41.7%, or $74,350 came from inside the state of Mississippi

– 56%, or $99,832 came from outside the state of Mississippi (there
were $3,800 in unitemized contributions that we aren’t including in this
total)

–  83.2% of the funds, $148,000,  came from self described
attorneys

–  33.9%, or $60,500 came from Mississippi attorneys

–  49.2% came from non-Mississippi attorneys – and
that’s $87,500

–  After Mississippi, New York state was the 2nd
highest giver at 27,750

–  Couple of interesting contributions – two that came in
for $16,666 – one from a firm in Texas, and the second just across the
Red River in Arkansas.  There was a third contribution from a firm in
Oklahoma for $16,000 flat – I guess he didn’t get the memo.

report here

This is just the beginning, but it’s a fine start just the same.
