Oklahoma Republican Senator Coffee – We Made it Work

Although last session’s leadership sharing agreement worked well in the state Senate, Sen. Glenn Coffee R-Oklahoma City, looks forward to focusing on things that didn’t get done.

Because the Senate was split evenly among Republicans and Democrats, Coffee shared power with state Sen. Mike Morgan, D-Stillwater, as co-president pro tempore. The 10-year Senate veteran said the system worked well, and he credited Morgan with much of that.

“We could fight or we could decide to make it work, and we made it work,” said Coffee, who was in Enid Wednesday.

However, if Republicans had been in the majority Coffee said he would have done some things differently. Among his areas of focus would be roads and bridges, transportation, accountability and openness in government, as well as deregulation of public schools. He also wants to prioritize spending and limit the growth of government.

“We had a bill that didn’t make it out of the Senate, and I think it would have if we had a Republican majority,” he said.
