A $6.6 billion tax increase – yes, California can do better. A job choking maneuver like this from California Democrats falls right in line with these other frightening pieces of legislation from Democrats in other parts of the country. You can stop the spread of these dangerous ideas by supporting the RSLC today. From the North County Times:
Republicans on Sunday rejected a Democratic proposal for $6.6 billion in tax increases on the wealthy and corporations despite an offer to boost the state’s rainy day fund. The failed vote now pushes California’s budget impasse into its eighth week with no compromise in sight.
Assembly Minority Leader Mike Villines, R-Clovis, said economic incentives would work much better than tax increases, and demanded a spending cap. “I think we can do a better job,” Villines said toward the end of over four hours of debate in which 49 of the Assembly’s 80 members spoke. “I think we can do a much better job … and not increase taxes.”
The 45-30 vote was the first since the state began its new fiscal year July 1 without a budget.
