From StandardSpeaker:
Three telemarketers must pay more than $4 million in fines, civil penalties and restitution as the result of a lawsuit over deceptive charitable fundraising activities, state Attorney General Tom Corbett announced Monday.
“Using false claims and fraudulent charities to exploit the generosity of Pennsylvania residents and businesses is something that will not be tolerated,” Corbett said. “Bogus charity schemes not only take money from the pockets of unsuspecting victims, but also divert money away from legitimate organizations working to improve our communities.”
The lawsuit was filed by the attorney general’s Charitable Trusts and Organization Section against The Publishing Group Inc. of Charlotte, N.C., doing business as The Law Enforcement Times, The Drug Prevention News, The Volunteer Fireman, The Rescue Squad and The United Veterans’ Report, Corbett said.
