That was probably a good Pete Kinder event to go to.  Former U.S. Senator and GOP Presidential candidate Fred Thompson can give a pretty good stump speech with a southern drawl.  Not as good as South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster, but close.  From The Joplin Globe:

Actor and former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson, in Joplin on Wednesday stumping for Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, said he’ll be spending much of the remaining election season on the campaign trail for the John McCain-Sarah Palin ticket.

Speaking prior to a fund-raiser for the Kinder campaign, Thompson said McCain is the best choice because the country “needs leadership we really know in these dangerous times.”

Kinder had endorsed Thompson earlier this year when he sought the Republican presidential nod. That campaign ended in January after Thompson finished third in the South Carolina presidential primary.
