PA: GOP AG Corbett Raises Twice as Much as Dem Challenger

We have a question – if the Democrat A.G. candidate from Pennsylvania, John Morganelli, has such a loyal and well trained crew of volunteers on his campaign – why has he been so unsuccessful in his previous races (FOUR – 3 for AG and 1 abortive LG effort back in the day) for for statewide office?  Raising this amount of money with volunteers is unheard of – heck it’s downright impossible.  We’d hazard there are folks “volunteering” on this campaign who have a) been promised a big bonus after Election Day (where have we seen that before?); or b) are having their costs picked up by some undisclosed sugar daddy.  Either way, Mr. Morganelli has people working for him who are not showing up on the books – and we’re not sure, but we think that type of activity is a legal no-no, which if you’re running to be the top law enforcement officer in the commonwealth, would raise a question or twelve.  We can’t wait to see Mr. Morganelli’s report once it’s posted online.

Regardless of what we find – be it now, or after the Election – Tom Corbett will win re-election, and once again, John Morganelli will have gained little or traction is bid to receive statewide love.  From the Morning Call:

Republican Tom Corbett raised more than twice as much over the summer as Democratic challenger John Morganelli in their race for state attorney general, new reports show.

Between May 12 and Sept. 15, incumbent Corbett raised $1.01 million, state records show, while Morganelli raised $407,706. Morganelli is the district attorney of Northampton County.

With $2.1 million available to him, Corbett spent $361,598, leaving him with a cash balance of nearly

$1.8 million, according to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday with the Department of State. Morganelli spent just $25,330, leaving $1 million on hand.
