And now Vaughn’s 2nd House District opponent, Republican Tony Shipley of Colonial Heights, is criticizing him for it.
Vaughn apparently wrestled with his decision.
In a House Democratic Caucus meeting near the end of the 2007 legislative session, Vaughn was quoted as saying it would be “political suicide” for him to vote for a cigarette tax increase.
After making the comment, Vaughn didn’t get any sympathy.
“What good is a Democratic seat if we can’t have a Democratic vote?” state Rep. Johnny Shaw, D-Bolivar, was quoted as saying in The Tennessee Journal, the state’s political insider publication.
