This whole series of events, all spawned from the nightmarish and tragic landfall of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, is taking on a whole different look.
How could Charlie Foti possibly have known that what seemed like a campaign slam dunk, bringing emotionally riddled charges against first responders, is now turning into Foti's own political nightmare. And who benefits? From a policy point of view who benefits? Not the families of the hurricane victims, not attorneys in Foti's office, and not the citizens of Louisiana.
From a political point of view – Charlie Foti appears to be gaining nothing from this course of events.
His political opponents, are probably singing the incumbent AG's praises for doing for free, what would've cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars – and that is trotting out reasons why he shouldn't be re-elected. This is like “macaca”, only more drawn out, and more salient, relevant, and pertinent (those all mean the same thing don't they?).
The lone Republican candidate in this race so far is Royal Alexander(a side note, Alexander has reported raising over $400,000 in the first 70 days of his campaign), and Foti has even drawn a Democrat opponent as well in prosecutor Buddy Caldwell. Check out the AP's story below.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Dr. Anna Pou — the physician arrested in the deaths of four patients at a New Orleans hospital after Hurricane Katrina — filed suit against the Louisiana Attorney General on Monday, accusing him of using her arrest to fuel his re-election bid.
