State Senator Casey Cagle defeated former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed in yesterday’s GOP primary in Georgia. With 97% reporting Cagle pulled 226,772 of 404,373, or 56.07% to Reed’s 177,601, or 43.92%. While Senator Cagle rests up and begins raising money for the General Election, he’ll have to wait until the August 8th Democrat runoff between Democrats Greg Hecht and Jim Martin.
As an aside – check out this Cagle Ad that ran throughout the campaign.
Next door in Alabama businessman Luther Strange defeated George Wallace, Jr in that state’s LG GOP primary runoff. With 99 percent of the precincts reporting, Strange had 108,224 votes, 55 percent, to Wallace's 89,636, or 45 percent. Big Luther’s opponent in November will be former Governor and Lt. Governor Jim Folsom, Jr. Strange ran a creative campaign, raising $2.8 million (at least) against an opponent with one of the most popular family names in Alabama politics. Congratulations to both men for running stellar campaigns.
Not only is Luther Strange a good fundraiser and campaigner, he has a great sense of humor to boot!
Congratulations to the Republican nominees. On to November.
