From the Great Falls Tribune:
Even as all but one of their statewide candidates fell to Democrats — in some cases by huge margins — the Montana GOP managed to pull out a 27-23 majority in the state Senate and will likely face a 50-50 tie in the state House. A handful of House races remained too close to call as of press time.
Republicans held a narrow 50-49 majority in the House in 2007, with a Constitution Party member typically voting with Republicans. When Republican Sen. Sam Kitzenberg defected to the Democratic side of aisle after the 2006 election, Democrats had a 26-24 majority in that chamber.
