Former Westchester County DA, and Republican AG candidate Jeanine Pirro has turned the corner and is coming on strong in her bid to become New York’s next attorney general. She’s fortunate that Democrats Andrew Cuomo (former Clinton appointee and son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo), Mark Green (former NYC Public Advocate), Sean Patrick Maloney (former Clinton White House Aide), and Charlie King (former ’02 LG candidate) have to duke it out in the September 12th Democratic AG Primary. Cuomo, the Dem state party endorsed candidate has a fundraising advantage, but a decent amount of political baggage as well. Cuomo has more than $6 million cash on hand, Green has $2 million on hand, Maloney’s got over $560k on hand, and King has $520k on hand. It’s a Cuomo/Green race, no runoff for the top two finishers, and whoever wins comes out with a lot less money.
Enter Jeanine Pirro, who’s raised $2.7 million in six months – the most of any candidate for AG in NY this year in this six-month period. She’s got about $2 million on hand, and has gone up on TV in upstate New York with this ad touting her credentials as a former judge, and prosecutor against Dem front runner Andy Cuomo and his lack of credentials.
NY is going to be very interesting this year.
