From The Topeka Capital Journal:
Incoming Speaker Mike O’Neal also said Monday that gambling isn’t the answer to the state’s budget problems.
“I don’t think gaming is the solution, and I think what’s happened since ‘07 kind of proves that gaming is not the solution,” said O’Neal, a Hutchinson Republican. “Everybody thinks they are going to hitch their star to this great revenue stream. It isn’t there and it’s not going to be there.”
House Republicans picked O’Neal as their leader Monday, ousting incumbent Speaker Melvin Neufeld of Ingalls. The entire House is expected to ratify O’Neal’s selection when the 2009 Legislature convenes Jan. 12.
