This is one big sticky mess for Illinois Democrats. Dem A.G. Lisa Madigan and Dem L.G. Pat Quinn were on Meet the Press this past Sunday talking how they want to get Governor Blagojevich out of office. Lisa Madigan refused to take herself out of consideration for the open Obama U.S. Senate seat, though back on December 4th people very close to her were saying she wanted no part of the Senate seat. Guess she’s changed her mind.
You gotta wonder what her father, probably the most politically influential man in Illinois politics thinks about all of this (he’s the Democrat Speaker of the Illinois House – since ’83 – and Chairman of the state Democrat Party). Of course, she claims she’s spoken to Rod Blagojevich only once in the last 2 years. Kind of like the folks on Team Obama – nobody every spoke to the Democrat governor. From the Wichita Eagle:
Illinois lawmakers return to the Capitol today with plans to disarm and dislodge Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich, whose arrest in an alleged attempt to sell President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat has thrown state government up for grabs.
But with Republicans looking to turn the tables on Democrats who control the statehouse, and disagreement among leaders over whether to proceed with impeachment and how to handle the Senate dilemma, the only certainty on the agenda is chaos.
