From the Courier-Journal:
At a news conference Williams, R-Burkesville, said he wants the 2009 General Assembly, which convenes today, to take a more long-term approach to balancing the state budget than the emergency proposal Gov. Steve Beshear has put forward in the face of a projected $456 million revenue shortage this fiscal year.
“I’m not going — and this General Assembly is not going — to be rushed to anything,” Williams said. “… We have an obligation to look at all cost-saving measures that can be applied. We’re not going to just go ahead and pass some taxes on various things and put money in a system that’s structurally imbalanced.”
