Gov. Phil Bredesen’s effort to end a tax exemption for commercial rental properties owned by family partnerships is shaping up as one of the more contentious issues in this year’s legislative session.
The governor recently said it’s unfair for family-owned noncorporate entities to be shielded from taxes while similar businesses controlled by unrelated investors are required to pay them.
