Instead, republicans are arguing to use existing revenue projections to balance the budget, as opposed to one-time funds, like the bailout from Washington.
During Thursday’s meeting, the republicans praised national and state party leadership for keeping a tight rein on taxpayers’ dollars.
“If it hadn’t been for management, we wouldn’t have $800 million ready to go into this budget, and make 2009 a smaller pill to swallow,” said Republican House Speaker Ron Richard of Joplin. “I think anyone who looks at where we are today realizes that the sound financial shape that the state of Missouri is in, is because we made the right decision. Difficult as it was, it was the right decision.”
