Last month the task force delivered, striking far beyond New York’s borders via an agreement with UnitedHealth Group that dismantled the company’s proprietary data source used nationally by insurers to determine what they pay for out-of-network care, and loathed widely by doctors and hospitals.
Cuomo and his peers across the country, not all with the same scope and salesmanship, are actively exercising their powers to police healthcare organizations and promote healthcare goals in their states. They’re acting as stewards of charitable assets in mergers and acquisitions, antitrust enforcers, Medicaid fraud busters and crusaders for access to care for their state’s poor and uninsured.
