From the Billings Gazette:
Montanans’ access to high-speed Internet likely would be expanded under whatever economic stimulus bill that passes Congress – it’s just a matter of how and how much.
Qwest, the largest private telephone utility in Montana, is pushing for the more generous U.S. Senate version of the bill, saying it could provide millions of dollars for broadband expansion in the state.
The U.S. House version contains money for broadband, too, but would make it impossible for Qwest to use any of the money, because it limits the build-out to types of service that Qwest doesn’t offer, said Johnna Hoff, a Qwest spokeswoman in Denver.
