From the Democrat and Chronicle:
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s push to get the state to consolidate some of its thousands of local governments took him to an unusual place Monday: a podium in front of a meeting of the state Conservative Party.
Cuomo, a Democrat and son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, whom the Conservative Party helped to push out of office almost 15 years ago, was warmly received by the Conservatives, who at least on this issue found common ground with someone whose name is synonymous with liberal politics.
“We are together on this issue,” said state Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long, who deflected a question about abortion and same-sex marriage from an audience member away from Cuomo. “He wasn’t invited here for the politics … “
The Independent Political Report has coverage of the conference, and notes that former GOP Congressman Rick Lazio shared the stage, probably for the first time ever, with Democrat A.G. Andrew Cuomo.
