From Knoxville Sentinel:
In an apparently unprecedented move Thursday, Rep. Steve McDaniel became the third person to serve as speaker of the state House of Representatives in less than a month.
House Speaker Kent Williams was absent to be with his 79-year-old mother, who is hospitalized, and House Speaker Pro Tempore Lois DeBerry, who would normally preside in the speaker’s absence, was herself hospitalized and unable to attend the day’s session, colleagues said.
That left House Clerk Burney Durham to call the session to order, and announce that the election of a “temporary speaker”would be the first order of business.
