From the News Tribune:
The more than a quarter million people collecting unemployment benefits in Washington soon could get a financial boost intended to help them through the recession.
The state Senate on Thursday voted 43-4 in favor of a bill that would increase benefits for laid-off workers by $45 per week, saying more money in families’ pockets would translate into more money spent at local businesses.
The bill, Engrossed Substitute House Bill 1906, was part of Gov. Chris Gregoire’s economic stimulus package and pays the extra benefits to unemployed workers from May 3 to Jan. 3, 2010.
