Bill Would Exempt Small Business Owners from Worker’s Comp Act

Are we reading this right?   Did a legal opinion for the AGs office wind up costing family owned businesses thousands of dollars in insurance premiums?  Might this be an issue in a future campaign? From the Journal Record:

That definition, as addressed in a 2007 legal opinion by Attorney General Drew Edmondson, may have inadvertently caused many family-owned businesses thousands of dollars in workers’ compensation premiums, said state Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City.

Kern introduced House Bill 1003 to alter the definition of “employer” as it applies to workers’ compensation laws. The bill was approved by the full state House of Representatives last week, and will next be assigned to a Senate committee.
