From sj-r.com:
Limiting the size of political candidates’ campaign contributions would represent a crucial step toward cleaning up state government, supporters of the idea told a legislative panel on Monday.
With contribution limits, the political clout of big-money special interest groups would fade, said Cindi Canary, executive director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform. Illinois citizens deserve assurances that “the lure of campaign dollars” won’t influence public policy decisions, she told the Joint Committee on Government Reform.
But members of the House-Senate panel questioned the fairness and effectiveness of a campaign finance system with contribution limits. Illinois has no such limits now.
