A victory here would be a pickup for the Republican controlled House.
From GoUpstate.com:
Steve Moss won the Republican nomination Tuesday for next month’s election to fill the House 30 seat held by the late Rep. Olin Phillips.
Moss will face Democratic nominee Tim Spencer, who was elected in the March 17 primary. Spencer is a Cherokee County councilman and the son-in-law of Phillips, a lawmaker for 30 years who died of a heart attack on Dec. 27.
In Tuesday’s runoff, Moss increased his margin, receiving 1,237 votes and defeating Scott Ramsey, who finished with 813 votes. In the primary, Moss finished only 15 votes ahead of Ramsey. Candidates Bobby Beattie, Bailey Humphries and Libby Swad were eliminated, and the runoff was necessary because Moss did not receive more than half of the votes cast.
