The future of open primary elections in Illinois is once again in jeopardy after a maneuver by Democrats to step into Republican Party politics.
Separate measures in the legislature that would no longer require voters to declare a political party preference to vote in primary elections are pending on the House and Senate floor.
But both ideas were changed Wednesday to include language requiring the state Republican Party to hold elections to pick members of the state central committee, rather than appointing those central committeemen.
