Gov. Chet Culver’s plan to crack down on employers who improperly classify workers would be eliminated under budget recommendations made by lawmakers Wednesday.
So would a skills assessment program for unemployed Iowans.
Dozens of other departments or programs also were targets for spending cuts, as lawmakers unveiled their ideas for balancing the state budget in the face of plummeting revenues.
“This is the day when we throw everything overboard,” Rep. Linda Upmeyer, R-Garner, said to a group of visitors at the Capitol on Wednesday.
