Lawmakers, the governor and other state elected officials would take a 10 percent pay cut starting in 2011 under a measure that won approval Thursday in the Michigan Senate.
But many current politicians would not be affected because they must leave office in two years under term limits.
The House is expected to finalize the salary cuts as early as next week
