SD: Senator Seeks Secretary of State Office

Secretary of State elections will be in focus in 2010.  We mentioned the Ohio race yesterday, and will be touching on others in the months ahead.  There are over 2 dozen elected Secretaries of State offices up for election in 2010.  The left has at least two big time efforts already underway to try and buy these undervalued, and often looked over offices.  The RSLC is fighting back – join us!

During state Sen. Jason Gant’s time in the Legislature, he has developed an interest in election issues, a topic that now has led him to run for secretary of state.

Gant, a 32-year-old Sioux Falls Republican, is concluding his third term in the Senate, where he represents Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.

Anyone paying close attention to his legislative work likely would have a good sense of his interest in issues important to the secretary of state’s job, issues such as campaign finance and corporate filings.

Gant says there are other responsibilities that must be adhered to, including preserving the “integrity in elections, creating awareness and importance of each vote being counted, stressing the importance of open government to get more information to the public and keeping costs low.”
