These days, the Knoxville Republican is the one who’s causing the gasps.
“I used to get very frustrated and go, ‘All my gosh, I can’t believe they’re doing this’ … now people read the paper and pull out their hair about me,” he says with a wide grin.
Several of his proposals have made headlines. For instance, there’s the one that would require a death certificate be issued for each abortion performed in Tennessee. Or the one that would prohibit individuals who receive state or federal assistance from being awarded lottery prizes over $600. Another would ban “any instruction or materials discussing sexual orientation other than heterosexuality” in public schools for grades K-8.
