From Atlanta Business Chronicle:
The flurry of activity in the Georgia governor’s race since the withdrawal of Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle two weeks ago continued Monday with the entry of state Sen. Eric Johnson into the fray.
Johnson, a Republican from Savannah, announced that he was calling off his candidacy for lieutenant governor next year to go for the top spot in state government in the wake of health problems that forced Cagle out of the race.
Johnson gave up his leadership role as Senate president pro tempore, a position he had held since 2003, late last year to concentrate on a bid for lieutenant governor. Before that, he served as the Senate’s minority leader back when Democrats controlled the upper legislative chamber.
