This is not the type of thing a lawmaker, of either party would make up. An operative, an over zealous volunteer – sure. But not a lawmaker. And chances are, this can’t credibly be chocked up as a simple misunderstanding either. This isn’t kind of a big deal – it’s the real thing! From News-Leader:
Two Republican House members have signed sworn affidavits alleging a top aide to Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon attempted to bribe them to vote yes on the governor’s Medicaid expansion proposal.
Last Wednesday, GOP state Reps. Chris Molendorp of Belton and Anne Zerr of St. Charles alleged Nixon’s deputy chief of staff, Dustin Allison, told them the governor would “reward” them with jobs if they voted for House Bill 11 and its expansion of government health to 35,000 low-income parents.
“Then, Mr. Allison said — and I quote — ‘If you are interested in a future career change, I am sure the Governor would look favorably upon your application if you share his vision for House Bill 11.’ I was immediately taken back by his offer,” Molendorp wrote in his signed affidavit.
