Three months ago, when the Obama administration offered up to $7 billion in unemployment insurance payments to states that brought their systems in line with federal guidelines, several governors said they would not take the money.
The cost of meeting the guidelines, they said, exceeded any benefit.
Even Gov. Brad Henry, a supporter of Barack Obama, initially was unsure.
But now, with the 2009 Legislature likely entering its last week, Henry is among an unusual assortment urging lawmakers to find a way to adopt the changes necessary for Oklahoma to claim its share of the pot.
