From Boston Herald:
Democratic state senators are hunkering behind closed doors in Senate President Therese Murray’s office to hammer out a tax plan as they prepare for the start of their budget debate.
Sen. Stephen Brewer, vice-chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, said senators were still hashing out a plan Monday, but said cuts alone won’t balance the budget and that reforms and new revenues or taxes are needed.
The Barre Democrat all but ruled out a gasoline tax or income tax increase, but called “courageous” the House’s vote an increase the state sales tax from 5 percent to 6.25 percent.
