Dems Campaign Finance Plan Doesn’t Stop Dipping into Leaders’ Funds

No real change here.  And the change that is here, benefits Democrat control.  Democrats are doing all they can to survive the Blago-storm that could be forming on the horizon of 2010.  From sj-r.com:

Illinois Senate Democrats on Wednesday released their campaign finance plan, which would set limits on how much money individuals, labor unions and other organizations could contribute to political candidates.

But the proposal, a component of lawmakers’ efforts at ethics reform, wouldn’t stop legislative leaders from continuing their practice of dipping into the campaign funds they control and making large contributions to preferred candidates.

Democratic Sen. Don Harmon of Oak Park, who helped negotiate the plan, said it’s unnecessary to place restrictions on transfers out of the legislative leaders’ funds.

“We’re dealing exclusively with the influence of outside money,” he said. “Those are the dollars that come from outside the system and create the appearance of trying to influence governmental action.
