DES MOINES (AP) — Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has filed a consumer fraud lawsuit against a Des Moines company, accusing it of misleading people about the percentage of donations kept by the business.
Miller announced at a news conference Wednesday that he also is joining prosecutors in 31 other states in suing a Milwaukee company, Community Support, Inc. Miller alleges that when the company made calls into Iowa, it misrepresented its location and the percentage of donations that would go to charity.
The lawsuit against the Des Moines company, Public Safety Communications Inc., accused it of keeping most of the money it raised. The professional fundraising company raises money for organizations ranging from Handicapped Children’s Services of America to the State Police Officers Council.
