From The Union Recorder:
Following months of speculation about his intention to retake his old office on the second floor of the state capitol, former Gov. Roy Barnes announced his candidacy in the 2010 gubernatorial race.
In a press conference held Wednesday afternoon in Marietta, Barnes entered a field of Democratic candidates that includes state House minority leader DuBose Porter, D-Dublin, Attorney General Thurbert Baker and former Georgia National Guard Commander David Poythress.
Barnes served one term in the governor’s office from January 1999 until January 2003 before his re-election bid failed to overcome the campaign of then state legislator Sonny Perdue. Since that time Barnes has put his law degree to work as a trial lawyer in Marietta.
