Some people were ready to write an obituary for the Alabama Republican Party’s Campaign 2010, an effort to try to wrest control of the Legislature from Democrats, following a tough loss in a special election in south Alabama earlier this month.
But the Republicans won a big victory Tuesday, picking up a traditionally Democratic state Senate seat over a sitting state legislator in a special election.
Huntsville businessman Paul Sanford, a Republican, beat state Rep. Laura Hall, D-Huntsville, on Tuesday for the first big Republican upset going into the 2010 campaign season.
