From bgdailynews.com:
Kentucky’s pro-gambling governor on Wednesday appointed an antigambling lawmaker to a lucrative position on the Public Service Commission.
Sen. Charlie Borders, R-Grayson, resigned from the Senate after Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear appointed him to the new position that pays more than $100,000 a year.
The announcement by Beshear was widely seen as a move to get Borders, one of the state’s leading gambling opponents, out of the state Senate and weaken the GOP’s hold on the Senate.
Such moves are closely watched in Frankfort politics. Republicans now hold majority control in the Senate with 21 of 38 seats. GOP retirements could give Democrats, who hold 16 Senate seats, a chance to close that gap.
