From The State:
My recent appearance before state environmental regulators offered a tiny glimpse into a massive battle the attorney general’s office is waging to protect one of our state’s most precious assets: our water. But it was easy to misunderstand our effort, because it was only a tiny glimpse, of one small part of the battle.
Yes, it is a battle over water rights. But more than that, it is about job creation, industry, free enterprise and the economic future of South Carolina. Water fuels our state’s economy from the mountains to the sea. There is no substitute for water; it is the lifeblood of our future.
Out West, water wars have raged for years. But in the East, water has seemed abundant, until now. And South Carolina, in this battle with North Carolina over the waters of the Catawba, has taken the lead in protecting the rights of its citizens and their hopes for the future.
