If Democrats, who control the Legislature, don’t pass stricter ethics laws in next year’s session, top Republicans say they’ll likely make it a campaign issue a few months later.
Senate Majority Leader Zeb Little, D-Cullman, said ethics overhauls have little chance of passing in 2010, precisely because of Republicans’ partisan approach.
“With an election year coming up, with a Republican governor who is the most partisan governor we’ve ever had, with (Gov. Bob Riley’s) stated goal of taking over the Legislature,” Little said, “it’s probably not going to … happen.”
