From DelawareOnline:
The upcoming special election in the 37th Representative District is an interesting twist of ironies beginning with the mother of the Democratic candidate. Robert Robinson Jr. is the son of Battle Robinson, a Republican and the first female judge from Sussex County. She also worked on Gov. Pete du Pont’s staff. She later ran for lieutenant governor and lost to S.B. Woo in a wild and crazy election in 1984 by 429 votes.
Battle Robinson was also a roommate with Elizabeth Dole in college in North Carolina. But don’t look for Dole or husband Bob doing any campaigning for Robert Jr. His father, “Robby,” was the longtime publisher and editor of the Sussex Countian, the Georgetown weekly newspaper.
Robinson Jr. has significant support from the legal community in Sussex County — from both parties — where he serves as a public defender.
