ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC), the nation’s largest caucus of Republican state leaders, welcomes Marty Jackley as the new South Dakota Attorney General.  Jackley is currently the U.S. Attorney for South Dakota, and will succeed Republican Larry Long, who was appointed a judge in the Second Judicial Circuit in July.  Jackley’s appointment is effective September 4.

“Larry Long is a man of ardent intellect who served the people of South Dakota with distinction.  He has the temperament to make an outstanding judge and to have an illustrious judicial career,” said Republican State Leadership Committee President Scott Ward.  “Marty Jackley brings a great depth of experience to the office of Attorney General that will serve him well in this position of public trust.  We welcome him as the newest member of the Republican State Leadership Committee.”

Jackley has served as U.S. Attorney since 2006.  It is reported that he will continue Long’s 24/7 Project and work on pressing energy issues.  Jackley’s appointment is well-received by both the legal community and the tribal community for his record of cooperation in working to solve the issues they face.

The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) is the only national organization whose mission is electing Republicans to the office of Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State and State Legislator. The RSLC is the largest caucus of Republican state leaders in the country – making a national impact one state at a time.  During the 2008 election the RSLC helped maintain the number of Republican Attorneys General and Lieutenant Governors across the U.S. In addition, the RSLC was able to deliver new Republican majorities in the Montana, Oklahoma and Tennessee state senates, as well as an unprecedented majority in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

The RSLC has over 75,000 donors from all 50 states supporting the RSLC’s goals to pursue a pro-growth agenda, including reforming the tax code, healthcare and legal systems; promoting a better educational system; encouraging sound energy initiatives; and advocating public safety through tough, crime-fighting policies.
