Democrat Curt Hanson raised two-thirds of what Republican Stephen Burgmeier did in the month leading up to the Sept. 1 special election for Iowa House District 90 in southeast Iowa, according to reports filed with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board.
An amended campaign finance report filed Thursday shows that in one month, Burgmeier, a farmer, took in $63,101 for his campaign – a similar amount raised over three months by candidates in competitive legislative races last November — and had $22,668 left going into the final 10 days before the election.
Top contributors included $15,000 from the Republican Party of Iowa and its Eisenhower Club, $10,000 from Iowans for Tax Relief PAC, $10,000 from The Hawkeye PAC, $5,000 from the Iowa Association of Business and Industry’s PAC, $3,000 from For Americas Republican Majority (FARM) in Alexandria, Va.; $2,500 from Iowa Family PAC, $2,500 from Master Builders of Iowa PAC.
